My own "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" Experience

Welcome to my blog! I hope you find it both informative and enjoyable.

I am getting ready to go on a long-planned trip to Washington, D.C. I am very excited to be going because the only other time I have been in D.C. I was five months old! I am looking forward to touring our nation’s capital and seeing, in person, all the wonderful monuments, parks and museums the city has to offer. It is the place where, beyond the politics, government is really in action.

I remember as a child being transfixed by the video School House Rock, where silly little cartoon characters take on the task of explaining the very complicated process of how a bill becomes a law. Okay, mostly I loved the music! On my itinerary is a tour of the Capitol and, as our Congress wrestles with passing real health care reform, I hope to witness a part of history as that bill moves towards becoming law. The timing of this trip could not be any better!

Also on my must-see agenda is a visit to the Supreme Court to hear oral arguments on a case being presented to them. As an attorney, this will be a significant moment as I will have the opportunity to observe first-hand the third branch of government tackling important legal issues of the day.

And of course, I cannot even put into words the thrill of knowing I am going to be able to see the White House. While I know my chances of seeing the President are slim, I am prepared for any encounter with Bo as I will be carrying little treats in my pocket – just in case!

My trip won’t be long, but I think it will be packed with adventure. I invite you to follow me on Twitter while I am in D.C. at @Radeff4Rep If I can figure out how to use my new I Phone I will also post some photos!
